Jeniferever - Silesia

Swedish band Jeniferever unveils the forthcoming third album, Silesia on Monotreme Records, set for April 19 release - a fitting example of their masterful meld of melodic pop songcraft with post rock's expansive sonic wanderlust. It is an album borne of tragic loss and motion.

Previously compared to other outfits like The Appleseed Cast, Explosions In The Sky and Immanu El, every second of Silesia is tied to place and time, bound by reality and borne by experience. It's less about escape, more confronting the unexpected trials that send one's life into undulation.

The album's title is taken from the former name of Berlin's Ostbahnhof. It was near here, while on tour in 2009, that member Kristofer Jönson learned that his father had passed away. Reality bit where there was so often release; the structure of life on the road collapsed, and the band canceled their remaining dates. Several months later, a third album began to form; while not wholly informed by the recent tragedy, nevertheless the collection bears its title with no little relevance.

"I liked the idea of naming it after a railway station since it's a place of motion, a place where people arrive and depart and sometimes maybe depart never to come back," Kristofer said. The end product is Jeniferever's brightest, most immediate long-player yet. From pain, confidence; from darkness, light.

Jonathan Jeremiah - A Solitary Man

Jonathan Jeremiah, whose timeless songs and soulful voice place him firmly in the tradition of classic Island artists like Nick Drake and John Martyn, and mark him out as a songwriter with a rare talent, releases his new single “Happiness” on March 21st. Written and produced by Jeremiah, is taken from the 28 year old Londoner’s debut album “A Solitary Man” which is to be released on the same date.

Jonathan Jeremiah’s music comes from a world far away from the quick fix, pre packaged production line. He has spent the best part of a decade defining a sound rooted in a rich legacy of bespoke English folk and confessional soul. Undoubtedly a major factor in the sound is Jonathans rich sonorous vocal.

“When I was 14 my voice developed an incredible deep baritone. At the time it wasn’t the greatest thing, everyone wanted to sound like Jeff Buckley . I felt like a man out of place but in time, I embraced the baritone.”

Jonathan’s debut album “A Solitary Man” was engineered and produced by Jonathan in an analogue studio in Dollis Hill and featured collaborators included The Heritage Orchestra, a young group of classical musicians attuned to his working methods, and Jules Buckley who handled all the string arrangements.

Although the album has been a long time in the making it offers proof that sometimes the best things take time. With equal measures of hard headed determination and careful nurturing, Jonathan’s music is ready to be unveiled. The time to take his songs into your heart and soul is here.

Little Tybee - Humorous To Bees

One might think from their humble beginnings in the backwaters and basements of coastal Georgia to their headlining shows at some of Atlanta’s most well known independent venues that the members of Little Tybee were the harbingers of some secret formula for artistic success. In reality, they are simply a group of friends who couldn’t stop making music together if they tried.

The core of each of their songs begins in the relentless and creative mind of vocalist/guitarist/pianist Brock Scott. The songs mature through the dedicated musicianship of 8-string guitarist Josh Martin, violinist Nirvana Kelly, bassist Ryan Donald, and percussionist Pat Brooks. Since the release of their first LP last year, they have discovered that change is not only inevitable, but indeed good.

Though Little Tybee has had its fair share of challenges along the way, the group has discovered that the path to musical success lies in patience and perseverance. Little Tybee isn’t afraid to experiment freely, even dangerously at times, to follow a musical idea to its ultimate end. This mentality has led the group to explore music that transcends genre and packs a much bigger punch than their modest title implies.

While DIY in nature, Little Tybee collaborated with over 14 Atlanta instrumentalists to produce their latest album, Humorous to Bees. With this release, Little Tybee has proven that they are just as adept at writing lilting pop ballads and sprawling orchestral melodies as they are with Motown and Tropicalia. At last, Little Tybee has found their unique voice, and they are blasting their sound with little care for the neighbors.

H&M x Swedish Hasbeens

H&M is proud to be working with the cult shoe label Swedish Hasbeens bringing its wooden-soled style to the rest of the world. Available from 20th April in around 150 stores worldwide, the three styles of wooden-soled clogs made exclusively for H&M are inspired by the traditional Swedish styles of the ’70s. Using handcrafted methods and environmentally friendly materials, Swedish Hasbeens are a perfect example of how fashion and fun can also be naturally sustainable.

“I love the genuine feeling you get from Hasbeens, from the wood and the leather, and also how they take something traditional and Swedish and make it contemporary and modern. These Hasbeens for H&M fit perfectly with the ’70s bohemian look that’s so important this coming season,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s head of design.

“We have a strong belief in making better shoes for a better world. We want to make fashion more fun, creative and friendly to both the environment and people. We have loved designing for H&M! It’s a fantastic opportunity to spread the idea of Hasbeens and make these shoes available to more people around the world,” says Emy Blixt, founder and designer of Swedish Hasbeens.

Swedish Hasbeens have created three wooden-soled styles for H&M which will become wardrobe essentials this Spring. There’s a gladiator style strappy wedge with three buckle ankle straps and a progression of straps going over the foot, all sitting on a wooden wedge. This is available in three colours, cream and tan on a pale wooden wedge and black on a black base. There’s then the heeled summer sandal with one ankle strap, which comes in cream and red on a pale wooden base. The third style is a peep-toe slip-on wedge on a wooden sole, with snake-effect leather laced on top. All three styles are exclusive to H&M, making this one of Spring’s must-haves as soon as they hit the stores!

This Spring 2011 sees Reebok debuting new colorways to their long time favorites Insta Pump Fury - introducing the Tent pack and Safety pack.

On the other side, Tent pack seem to pick a one color theme in order to keep the sneaker a little cleaner than usual. Panic! at the Disco - Vices and Virtues

Grammy-nominated rock band Panic! at the Disco set March 22 the release of their third studio album titled Vices and Virtues through Fueled by Ramen. The first album without the two former members Ryan Ross and Jon Walker, the new Panic! seems to be a lot darker and deeper compared to the last release - probably a good thing though. The album cover for this release explains a lot of the intense darkness.

The first single from this album is The Ballad of Mona Lisa, an upbeat tempo driven melody with heavy guitar riffs, scheduled to release on February 1. The album was produced by Butch Walker and John Feldmann.

Broken Social Scene Live at Terminal 5

Brought to you by Bowery Presents.

Ringo Deatstarr - Colour Trip

Austin-based trio Ringo Deathstarr has announced the release of their full-length album Colour Trip via Sonic Unyon Records on March 8. The group plays music of a shimmering and harmonious variety which marries the ecstatic ramble of early Jesus & Mary Chain and effect laden assault of My Bloody Valentine with the plug in and play attitude of Royal Trux and Sonic Youth. “We write cool little pop songs but we just bury them under loud amounts of noise” says guitarist Elliott Frazier. Frazier trades off lead vocals with Alex Gehring (bass) and the lineup is completed by Daniel Coborn on drums. Live the band has played through the U.S., Europe and Japan with artists such as The Dandy Warhols, A Place To Bury Strangers, Black Angels, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead, The Ravonettes and just finished a European tour with The Wedding Present.

Of course the band’s sound demands doesn’t always go over smoothly as Frazier recounts “Sometimes the headlining band doesn’t like when the opening band is louder than them, much louder. Also our sound guy is a vital part of the show because the house sound man doesn’t usually understand that we want the guitars this loud and we don’t want the vocals center of the mix.”
