Monotone and Brushfire Records Presents Zee Avi

If you think you got what it takes to rise to stardom, unveil it all on YouTube. You never know someone may discover your magnificent talent and get you hooked up with some massive opportunity. This is just what likely happened to Izyan Alirahman, a Malaysian singer-songwriter once performed under the moniker KokoKaina, and now as Zee Avi.

Born in Miri, Sarawak, Zee Avi first posted videos of her singing and received tremendous responses globally. Shortly after, she was discovered by Brushfire Records, the label co-owned by Jack Johnson, and was signed as an artist under the label. On May 19, she unveiled her self-titled debut, made possible with Monotone and Brushfire Records.

She's currently on a tour across America to promote her album release, and a series of shows opening for Pete Yorn.

Aside from her musical talents, she also attended fashion design courses at American InterContinental University in London.

We're not being generous, but we can closely put her next to the likes of Regina Spektor, Cat Power and Kimya Dawson. Such soulful vocals, soothing guitar flicks and ukelele spells.
