The Dodos - Time To Die
San Francisco indie rock duo The Dodos is set to unleash a follow-up release to last year's critically praised album Visiter, Time To Die is due out on September 15 through Frenchkiss Records.
"After Visiter, we had a lot of options for which direction to go," says Meric Long, "But I knew we wanted to make a rock record. Being an acoustic band—primarily, at least—sort of works against this idea, but Phil Ek's production showcased that side of our band."
Alongside with the band's two key elements of the formation - Long's indulging harmonious tones and Logan Kroeber's wild 'beaty' percussive efforts, Time to Die will include one major addition to the current instrumentation, the vibraphone played by 21-year old Keaton Synder.
"The vibraphone is pretty crazy and loud," adds Long, "and if you put it through some effects, you can make it sound like a guitar or synthesizer. It still has that element of something you're hitting, though, which is central to how Logan and I play our instruments."
