Nike Dunk for Beautiful Losers
Beautiful Losers is a documentary film directed by Aaron Rose and Joshua Leonard, highlighting on several individual artists reflecting the lifestyles they led through the roots of applying the DIY process. The artists starred in the film include Aaron Rose himself, Barry McGee, Chris Johanson, Ed Templeton, Geoff McFetridge, Harmony Korine, Jo Jackson, Margaret Killgallen, Mike Mills, Deanna Templeton, Stephen Powers, Thomas Campbell, Shepard Fairey and Cheryl Dunn.
To commemorate the debut appearance of the film on August 8 at IFC Center, Nike Sportswear created a series of 22 pairs of Dunks featuring still images from the movie using high-resolution digital printing process.
“We went back to the documentary and pulled frame stills of what we felt were key moments in the narrative. We used these moments to tell the Beautiful Losers story using the shoes as a medium, with the end result being a collection of works of art,” a comment by Rose.
Aside from that, Nike will also be presenting a series of youth mentorship workshops known as MAKE SOMETHING! in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco, inviting local children to participate in programs of such like sign painting, photography, skateboard graphic design, toy design, filmmaking, tattoo art, footwear design and zine making, guided by featured Beautiful Losers artists like Barry McGee, Ed Templeton, Tobin Yelland, Eric Elms, Geoff McFetridge, Shepard Fairey, Mike Mills, Todd James, Cheryl Dunn, KAWS, Mr. Cartoon and Aaron Rose.
