Manda Rin - My DNA
MANDA RIN releases her debut solo long-player, MY DNA, through This Is Fake DIY Records on Monday 8th September 2008. The new album will be preceded by the single, DNA, which is released digitally on 18th August and physically - on seven-inch vinyl - on 25th August.
MANDA RIN, aka Amanda MacKinnon, is instantly recognisable from cult electro-punk pop trio Bis. About a year after the band formed in 1994, they appeared on Top of the Pops. Bis went on to record three albums, release a Greatest Hits, and tour with the likes of the Foo Fighters, Ash, Garbage, Super Furry Animals and Gary Numan.
Further abroad Bis featured on Beastie Boys Grand Royal label in the USA, and sold nearly 100,000 copies of their debut album in its first week of release in Japan.
Now Manda is continuing to dabble in disco-punk, but with a strong guitar pop edge. She claims her new direction is influenced by acts like The Gossip, CSS, New Young Pony Club, To My Boy, Blood Red Shoes and her new favourite band Late Of The Pier.
Having contributed to the odd side project – the band, Juno!, and Japanese project, Meister - Manda is now focused on her own solo music. The first single, DNA, is an explosive track packed full of phat, disco-punk basslines and edgy, up tempo poppy guitar riffs. Team this with Manda Rin’s familiar attitudinal voice and staccato style and you have one seriously dynamic, energy fuelled track. This is a colourful, impressive tune set to position Manda Rin in a firm class of her own in the Scottish music scene. Rupert Noble who has worked with bands including the Long Blondes and Electrelane will direct the video for DNA.
The track-listing for the 12 song album is as follows:
1. DNA
2. Typeface
3. Bad Things Happen To Bad People
4. Guilty Pleasures
5. Do The Static
6. The Word Out
7. Break Up / Breakdown
8. Love To Hate You
9. No Language
10. Less Than Zero
11. Black Book
12. Bruises
