Manchester's indie punk lads Mazes unveiled their debut album titled A Thousand Heys, out now via FatCat Records.
The band is the formation of Jack Cooper (vocals and guitar), Neil Robinson (drums), Jarin Tabata (guitar) and Conan Roberts (bass), and have been on tours with bands like Pens, Wavves, Deerhunter, Thee Oh Sees, Sic Alps, Dum Dum Girls and Crocodiles.
A Thousand Heys is a tapestry of collective influences that draws on the band’s multi-national constitution and sees them dart in and out of their record collections with the same enthusiasm and sense of fun as the two wide-eyed kids messing about in front of the camera on the album’s cover. The opener ‘Go-Betweens’ is a song influenced by the honeyed, major-key pop of the band the song’s title references, but with New York Dolls guitars, Buzzcocks intensity and Big Star-esque nihilist lyrics. At other times, as referred to by Marc Riley when he called them a ‘sort of really garagey Kinks’, they can sound like a British Invasion group; a syncopated McCartney bassline kicks in during a chorus that starts with a ‘Hey!’ on ‘Surf & Turf’, with lyrics that actually reference ‘The Beatles at JFK’.
Mazes is here to stay to rock the world folks. Check out their animation of the song Most Days.

Thurston Moore is proud to announce his fourth solo album titled Demolished Thoughts, scheduled to release on May 24 via Matador Records. The Sonic Youth frontman collaborated with Beck on production of Demolished Thoughts.
Recorded in Los Angeles, Demolished Thoughts is an equally beautiful and brooding work; while there's more than a few tonal similarities to some of the past Moore compositions, the execution this time around is nothing short of staggering.
In addition to Moore's guitars and vocals, other guest performers include violinist Samara Lubelski, harpist Mary Lattimore, bassist Bram Inscore, drummer Joey Waronker and of course Beck.
One of the highly anticipated release for the year.
Dragoons is the first collection of exultant hymns and saturnine carols by the New York-based music makers/fiend alliance called Spirit People.
The young men who make up this musical collective have been writing songs together for over a year, and began work on this album in September 2010. After six months of recording in a basement, lit by the yellow light of a winter evening that crawls through frosty windows, the album is ready to be heard.
Dragoons is messy, it is strange, it is joyous fun and harrowing distance. The album was made with a collection of guitars tuned incorrectly, over-explored drum sets, sweaty pianos, swaying electronics, and phantasmal singing. The tracks are all fleshed out with lyrics that range from austere and harrowing to nearly psychedelic maneuvers of form. The songs make use of syncopation and contrast parallel melodies, all awash in miles of oceanic reverb, with each new listen revealing tokens of hidden sound.
Album tracks like "Keep Knees" and "Big Guard / Tetra Disaster" ache with severe guitar dysphasia and chord progressions that reek of unearthly jazz; "Quiet Rooms" and "Sammy" are warm and inviting, wrapping you in moss, and coming as close as Spirit People ever does to the pop stylings of an album like Vampire Weekend or a C.S. Lewis novel; the almost mathematical "Leave Me Be" is a cyclothymic dreamworld of wizardly trills and distraught vocals; and the closer, "Sprouting," the barest track on the album, ushers you safely back into the real world with the hollow rings of a woodland gospel and smiling nostalgia.
New York songstress Becca Stevens unveils her second studio album titled Weightless due out on April 19 via Sunnyside Records.

In Weightless, there are eight original tunes by Stevens, and four cover tunes. Weightless was recordedat Manhattan’s Sear Sound with veteran producer Matt Pierson (Joshua Redman, Jane Monheit and Kirk Whalum).
Hailing from Van Nuys, California, 19-year-old songwriter Alex Jacob and his gang Therapies Son caught our attention with their dreamy pop tunes drawing influences from the likes of Beach Boys and Flaming Lips.
Over The Sea is the debut 5-track EP released through Sargent House.
On his debut EP Over the Sea, we have the to-ing and fro-ing, galloping playground pop jam "Rose Red Rose", in which the initial whispered, tender intones make way for Technicolor orchestral bursts, glittering melody and breathless, merry-go-round waltzing, rubbing shoulders with the shimmering ebb and flow of the appropriately named "Still I Call", opens up into something more vast, more widescreen, and, with its swirling strings and otherworldly beauty, absolutely not of this epoch. The exquisitely poised heartache of "Touching Down" meanwhile, sounds bizarrely all the more yearning with what sounds like an entire marching band behind it, while "Yellow Mama" kaleidoscopes a whole world of loss and longing into its short running time, Jacobs' hushed vocals guiding the listener gently to a close. A truly one of a kind talent bound to break plenty of hearts of his own in the near future.
Drawing influence from Friendly Fires to Cut Copy, Two Door Cinema Club, Gwen Stefani and The Pixies. It all started with a trip to Ibiza, where the boys were thrown into a hazy world of dance beats for the first time and observed the power of truly immersive, communal music. It is a lesson they took back with them to Newcastle, and married to an immovable love for big pop melodies and classic indie. The resulting songs are immediate and exhilarating flights of escapism like their debut single "Sunshine Eyes" an arresting mix of Latin percussion with euphoric dance.
