jesu

jesu is an experimental rock band from Wales formed in 2003. If any of these words sound overly familiar to you - ambient, shoegazing, drone doom, experimental rock, downtempo or industrial - then the trio is the right selection for you. Up to date, they have already released 3 EPs and 2 albums, including this new one which was released this year, Conquerer.

The guitars are mainly on heavy distortion pads, rhythmic guitar sounds, catchy drum beats, sync keyboards, it's like carrying a very heavy baggage on your back when you're trying at your very best to climb up the hill...the climax of each and every song is pretty much the same direction - it's rising and rising and rising. jesu made metal sound different, a whole new perception of metal, and that's awesome.

As good as Conqueror is, it's hardly the band's masterpiece. The work laid here suggests that Jesu has much more exploring and refining to do but this recording is as good a place as any for listeners to begin anticipating the moment when this outfit climbs up from the underground to reap the rich rewards it so clearly deserves. A fantastic and darkly inspiring work. –Jedd Beaudoin
