Jónsi Birgisson & Alex Somers Announce Riceboy Sleeps

Sigur Rós lead singer Jónsi Birgisson and Icelandic pop band Parachute member Alex Somers have been working as partners on several exhibitions and artshows under the name Riceboy Sleeps. Their passion for art has slowly evolved to bringing their musical pieces to a new venture of instrumental music in Iceland.

On July 20, the duo will release their first full length album titled Riceboy Sleeps through Parlaphone. The record is performed solely with acoustic instruments and features long-time collaborators such as Amiina and Kopavogsdaetur Choir.

"Riceboy Sleeps is human in a profound and verging-on spiritual way. It says nothing, literally, and yet living through its 68-minutes you emerge feeling much has been revealed. Its slowly evolving abstract landscapes are both edifying and life-affirming. The record works as a whole, and exists in a contemplative dream-state, unconstrained and mesmeric, seemingly outside time." (click here to read the full press release)

This is an extremely interesting news on top of the recent announcement on Sigur Rós' forthcoming release in 2010. Stay tune for more.
